This journey started to work, when I decided to work…I decided it was time to make a change and when someone in my group asked WHY we showed up for self-care daily, it reminded me of the choice I made to be my best self 4 years ago.
I had to decide for myself and for my future to make a change. The fire to make “this work” came from chronic pain from a running injury. I was tired of being stuck on the couch in pain. Some days, I couldn’t even walk. I still remember the day I waited on the floor of my garden shed for my husband to help me get up. I waited for 5 or 10 minutes because I couldn’t move myself.
I was 26, newly married and had just run my first half marathon. I learned the hard way how important it is to cross train for a race. I’m not a natural runner. I need to WORK for those miles and after seeing massage therapists, physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopaths for my injury I knew I didn’t want to continue on this road. If I wanted to run again, I needed to trust the process and go all in on my health and wellness.
And when I mean go ALL IN, I meant it. I signed up as a coach. I knew if I was going to hold myself accountable, being a coach was the best way to do it. I tackled a program called PIYO, a low impact pilates and yoga program. I had to modify EVERY move. I did my workouts alongside my husband in case I needed any help. I don’t think anyone really knew how bad my injury was because I did my best to keep it hidden. Along with my raging IBS, I truly felt like my life was a mess.
I was at my ultimate low, so what did I have to lose? Within 30 days of drinking my superfoods and committing to piyo, I felt so much better. I knew I was on the right path – both for my health and for my career. After working on myself for 30 days, I jumped in and helped others do the same. I couldn’t keep this secret to myself anymore.
This journey has made me who I am. I’m more confident, I’m happier, and I’m becoming the best version of myself every single day. I’m grateful that taking care of myself IS MY JOB. I have to show up, grow up and glow up even in hard times.
It’s so easy to put yourself on the back burner. It’s even easier to give up on goals right now because things aren’t ideal but you don’t have to take the easy route. I’ve been exactly where you are. I felt trapped and had no idea where to start but I found that by taking a few small actions everyday, I could see massive changes over time. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you just have to show up for yourself.
