I recently heard about this “movement” on Instagram when a friend posted that she was finally a member, along with many other amazing women in running communities online.
Have you heard of it before? It’s a movement to help women embrace their bodies and run in only a sports bra (and bottoms of some sort but thats’s totally up to you). I have been watching women love their bodies and show the world by joining the Sports Bra Club.
As an imperfect woman, this was a hard challenge for me to face. Yesterday, I told myself I was brave (and it was friggen hot) so I was going to do it. When I was just about ready to go, I got to the bathroom and told myself in the mirror, “HECK NO! You’re actually going to write about how you wanted to be a member but you’re actually a coward”.
Hurtful, right? We can be so mean to ourselves.
And with that word, coward, I said not today. I’m going to do something that scares the crap out of me – run in my sports bra.
And I’ll tell you right now, it was amazing. Insted of focusing on my podcast or book, I had the oppportunity to focus on my run, form and my core. Because I was so self consious, I actually had a better run. I pushed beyond my limits and sweated like crazy.
It felt like I was one step closer to living in a world where women truly love their bodies and gave me the motivation to help others embrace this movement too. If you struggle with body image or self confidence, I challenge you to give this a try – even if it’s just around your house and use only loving words towards your body. Don’t grimace at the sight, fully embrace and love yourself for being so bold.
And if you’re really struggling, reach out! This is a journey and we can do it together. Be proud of who you are, and not ashamed of how someone else sees you.
